CLiONA FOX

Cliona was born in Co. Cork, Ireland and moved to Dublin where she attended the National College of Art and Design achieving a first class honours in Fine Art . Although working and living in Dublin she regularly undertakes residencies in various parts of the Country to seek inspiration. Among them have been in the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, Annaghmakerrig, Custom House Studios, Mayo and the Cill Rialaig Retreat Co.Kerry. She has had many solo and group exhibitions, exhibiting widely throughout Ireland and abroad including Brussels and Beijing. Her work is in several collections including The Board of Works, Dept. of Foreign Affairs, Waterford Healing Trust, Galway university, Sheraton Hotels, Cill Rialaig Collection and the European Union.

While she appreciates the element of drawing, producing an accurate representation is not of paramount importance, it is through the exploration of colour and light, texture and surface and the visceral substance of the paint that determines the outcome of a work. The process for her chosen image often involves obliterating, scraping back, glazing, scumbling or overpainting areas until the coalescence of layers demonstrates that there is nothing left to do. Every part of the canvas is treated with equal importance as she allows the work to evolve organically until a balance is achieved between colour light and form.
